Walnut Creek CA Earthquake Gas Shut Off Valve

Here at A Wright Plumbing, we know how important it is to protect your home during a catastrophic event, such as an earthquake. As residents of California, we know there’s always the potential that an earthquake can damage our properties and our homes.

We do all we can to prepare ourselves with emergency kits, anchoring our furniture, and other important precautions. However, it can be easy to forget about items outside our immediate living space, such as gas valves.

It is important to be proactive when it comes to protecting your home and family in the event of an earthquake. That’s why we recommend learning about what to do in an earthquake emergency and how to prepare for them at the California Seismic Safety Commission.

We also recommend that you call us to learn more about our full range of earthquake safety equipment and services for gas lines in Walnut Creek, CA and throughout the Bay Area.

Here are a few of the installation and repair services we offer for gas safety equipment:

  • Seismic Gas Meter Excess Shut Off Valves

Walnut Creek and Contra Costa County Gas Valve Requirements

As you are probably aware, for your home or office to be up to code, seismic gas shut off valves are now required by the City of Walnut Creek and throughout the Contra Costa County. When buying or selling a home, or when pulling a city or county permit for any structure, a seismic gas shut off valve must be installed at the meter.

In addition, the law requires that every new water heater, including replacement water heaters, must be strapped and braced for earthquake emergencies. Identifying whether or not a water heater has been properly braced is now part of the requirement for a home inspection and anyone selling a home.

If you have questions, or would like more information about natural gas and water heater safety, you can take a look at the Homeowner’s Guide to Earthquake Safety.
